The Jets wont go quietly

Look, I hate the Jets as much as the next Patriots fan. But too many times I've seen an inferior Jets team give the Pats trouble. Remember the 2007 "revenge" game against the Jets? Not quiet the beat down folks thought it would be.

I fully expect the Patriots to defeat the Jets, but I'd be surprised if the Jets and Rex Ryan who knows this will probably be the last time facing this team, will go quietly.

Injury Update: Dominique Easley on IR

Its been reported that the Patriots have placed Dominique Easley on Injury Reserve.

Its pretty dissapointing news for the rookie. Not only was his impact minimal, although that is common with rookies. More concerning is that Easley had injury problems in college and to see him start out on IR is pretty discouraging. One can only hope this doesn't turn into another potential injury riddled first rounder

2014 AFC East Division Champions

To think we started this season with a beat down in Miami, followed a few weeks later by an embarrassing loss on MNF to the Chiefs.

The job is far from done, but the Patriots have conquered the East yet again and it couldn't have been clinched against a better opponent this season. The once promising 2014 campaign  has ended in soul searching mode yet again for the directionless organization that is the Miami Dolphins.

Tuesday Patriots Updates

Well its been a quite Tuesday so here's the main news of the day:
Brandon Browner and Brian Tyms are finally ready to get on the field this week. It's obviously interesting for a number of reasons.

  • Can Tyms build off his solid preseason and help solidify the passing attack?
  • How much better will the defense be with Brandon Browner? I can't wait to find out.
By the way, it's good to hear Tom Brady straight deny the reports that he wants out of New England.Kind of ridiculous this started when the team was 0-2. I said going into the game our Patriots have been written off and they hadn't even played an October game. While the Patriots have yet to prove their problems are solved they've proven they still have the fire that's driven this team to do great things. While I'm not expect big things, if Tyms could become a reliable target for Brady this offense will really be confusing for defenses to stop.

As good has Revis has been, I can only imagine how much better the defense would be with an effective Browner on the opposite side.

Exciting times are ahead my fellow Patriot fans...

5 Reasons The New England Patriots Will Improve

1. The Defense
The Patriots pass defense has lived up to the hype (that's saying something given the team's struggles) Chandler Jones is having an amazing year, if his injury isn't too serious he should stay on pace for his best year yet. Darelle Revis hasn't been perfect, but hes been damn good for the defense and is the obvious reason the secondary seems to have taken the next step. If the run defense can be as solid as they were Sunday this will be the best defense the team has had in years.

2. Wide Outs
I'm going to include the Tight Ends in this as well. Brandon LaFell may not be popular amongst Pats fans thus far but he's defiantly improving as the season goes on. If he can have a good year that gives Brady a threat he didn't have last year. Julien Edelman has replaced Wes Welker as the safety valve. If Aaron Dobson could just get it going what a boost that would be to the offense. As for the tight ends Rob Gronkowski is getting better every week and Tim Wright is showing potential.

3. The Running Game
Steven Ridley and Shane Vereen have proven to be play makers for this offense. Last year Vereen really established himself as a dual threat. This season Ridley has shown he's running with a purpose. Although the Patriots have had good running games under Tom Brady, they haven't been able to depend on the running game since Corey Dillon. If the Oline does its job this running game can be a problem for anyone.

4. Offensive Line
Yes, the O line. As up and down as they've been (I realize I'm being nice saying that) they have shown signs of improvement and Sunday was obviously the best performance yet by far. They'll still go through their growing pains but if this line can continue to develop and stay healthy this offense can be lethal come playoff time.

5. Tom Brady
Hopefully now the over reaction crowd can disappear for awhile. It should be obvious to anyone with an IQ above 1 that this team has more issues then Brady. While he may not be the same guy he was in 2007 Sunday night proved he can still get it done. Once the offense is truly clicking he'll be as difficult to stop as any QB in the league

Patriots-Bengals..Pregame thoughts

Well its been a week from hell for a Pats fan so this game couldn't come soon enough. It's time to see what our boys are made of. I can't promise a win, but I can't see a Belichick-Brady led team not puting forth their best effort today. The Patriots have not played one game in October yet but have already been left for dead. If Rodney Harrison was still playing he'd be fuming at the mouth over all this bullentin board material.

I'll be updating the page/blog with injury news so stay tuned..

First half thoughts

Well it's been brutal so far to say the least. All week long we've wondered whats wrong with this offense and I think tonight shows what the biggest problem is loud and clear.

This offensive line couldn't block a pop warner team right now and that might be  stretching  it. Brady looks decent tonight throwing the ball, the receivers don't look too bad wither when they actually have a chance to make a play.

I really hope this line can get its act together or it's gonna be one loooong night. The defense hasn't been much better either unfortunately. We still have another half to play but this team doesn't even look like they came to play so far tonight.

Belichick looked pissed at Logan Ryan there to end the half. Considering Ryan was the Chiefs MVP on their last touchdown drive (his piss poor tackle and awful penalty) it wouldn't surprise me if we don't see him the rest of the night.

Well, let's hope this team pulls it's head out of the paper bag it has found itself in tonight...I'll see ya folks after the game with post game thoughts.

Patriots Quick Hits

So it's Sunday and our boys aren't on..Not to sound ungrateful but it's just not the same. It still if the NFL though so I'll be content today with my red zone channel. Now lets talk Patriots, I'm gonna give you guys some quick thoughts so we can get back to watching some football.

  • Sealver Silga has been placed on temporary IR. Temporary is different from the usual season ending IR list, meaning after about eight weeks or so he can return to the team. Hopefully he makes it back because the Patriots can ill afford to lose him. Even if they do manage to get along fine without him this leaves the line extremely thin now if another injury occurs. Football gods, please have mercy this year on our Patriots. It's really frustrating watching key pieces to the roster go down each and every year.

  • Oh that Offensive Line of ours.. It seems the only news we've heard is bad news all season. Fortunately this Monday it appears Bryan Stork will be getting the start at Center. The only issue is there appears to be a "question" as to who will handle LG duties all night. Now look, I didn't jump on Bill Belichick at the time for making the Logan Mankins trade and I wasn't going to suddenly do so when a young line was struggling out of the gate as young lines tend to do. However, for there to be uncertainty at a position that was solid going into the season when you already had improvements to make on the entire line is inexcusable and if things don't get right it's arguably one of Belichick's worst moves going into the season. So far the player in return has been a ghost (Tim Wright) and the offensive line has gone from a question mark to a horror show. If Wright  ends up contributing little to this team all season or in the future, I fail to see where this trade has made the Patriots anything but worse in the short or long term. You have to be kidding me if Belichick thought the line in this current condition would be better without Mankins.
  • That's all for now, hope everyone enjoys this NFL Sunday!

Playing the Blame Game

It's out in full force. We've blamed everyone for the offensive struggles from the offensive line, wide receivers, water boy, you name it. But now it seems Tom Brady is being blamed for the struggles. Obviously it's not pretty and yes Brady has had some ugly passes this year. However I can't put the blame on him or any particular unit itself. The line has been off and wide receivers have struggled so far. The offense is just off as a whole so far.

I think the line will get things figured out once chemistry is developed but the receiving core is a different story. Amendola is just space at this point and Brandon Lafell looks lost. I haven't heard glowing reports on Lafell and thus far I see why. Aaron Dobson has talent but he can't stay on the field and even when he is you wouldn't know it.

I know I sound negative but based off what we've seen thus far and past history it's concerning to say the least. As ugly as the line has been they've had injuries, shifted guys in and out, etc. Struggles will happen when those things occur. One has to wonder if maybe the offensive line has been the beginning of the problems and the rest of the offense crumbles as a result? It's certainly going to make life difficult with Brady getting killed a good portion of the game.

If things don't change soon, it's time to look at making some moves. People have been talking about the possibility of Richie Incognito but if things continue to be this bad at receiver you have to wonder if the Patriots will explore some kind of move before the deadline.

Rough Day For The Offense, But Patriots Prevail

Well it wasn't pretty but as they say a win is a win.

• the offense struggled for most of the game. Blocking errors, dropped passes, etc. The offense is a work in progress folks.

• even though they were giving up a few too many yards the first two series in my opinion, the defense was solid most of the day. Chandler Jones had another disruptive game and Dont'a Hightower continues his impressive play on the season.

• definently Rob Gronkowski's best day so far. It was good to see him out there rumbling and tumbling.

• while it wasn't a big game, Brandon Lafell showed signs of life today. On the one catch Danny Amendola made it was called back due to a penalty. When it rains it pours for some people..

• the run defense wasn't too bad today either. They didn't face a world beater at running back but they still had a solid performance.

• was that Patrick Chung breaking up a passing play? You know your secondary is doing well when that's happening..sorry, I'm just used to some brutal memories watching Chung cover someone.

•congrats to Brady on win number 150!

That's all for now!
